FROM THE INTRODUCTION:
On the banks of the canal in Jericho, Oxford, sits a very ordinary-looking commercial property with a sign that says, “Hipposync Enterprises, Dealers in Rare Books & Manuscripts.”
Many people have read that sign and moved on, pausing only to wonder if such a shabby concern is still in business. But behind that careworn facade lives something else altogether. Something strange and arcane and vital to the security of the country and…yes, very probably the world.
So what do they really do in Hipposync Enterprises?
This book is the first in a series recounting the cases plucked from their archives.
Then buckle up.
This book is the first of a series called HIPPOSYNC ENTERPRISES.
This novella is a wonderful introduction to the author’s world. In the real world (the one us humans inhabit) the Minister for Internal Affairs, Sebastian O’Hoy (known to the tabloids as SoHo) has disappeared from his highly secure home and seems to have vanished into thin air. “They are certain he did not leave the premises last night, but there is no sign of him this morning … There were symbols scrawled on the bedroom wall in what appears to be blood…”
Because of the strange symbols on the wall, the Minister of Great Britain and Northern Ireland decides that he needs to call the DOF – The Department of Fimmigration. “The DOF’s real function, of course, was to monitor the comings and goings of their own people, those Fae (Homo Elementus) who wanted to try their luck in a world where their own toned-down supernatural skills might be of some use.”
Captain Kylah Porter is a Fae and she is put in charge of finding the wayward Minister. The local police liason assigned to work with her thinks the DOF is a joke and that the regular police do not need their help. Kylah is sure that the disappearance has something to do with the Fae.
To that end, she travels to the hidden realm that most humans do not believe exists. It is a place where “Self-Stacking cutlery, bottomless drinking mugs, stay-warm toilet seats – all were a reality of daily life.”
What follows is part mystery, part comedy, part thriller and even part love story. All these parts add up to one highly entertaining read.
My favorite line in the novella is the author’s description of the facade of the building that houses Hipposync Enterprises, Dealers in Rare Books & Manuscripts (which is actually the Headquarters of the DOF).
“Its roots were exemplified by ornate signage: a hanging board with more calligraphic curlicues than a Christina Aguilera wig.”
There is also a character in the story named Mr. Viarga, who “… stood beneath them with a wooden ruler pointing hither and thither.” Get it? Viarga – wood? Ha ha!
I enjoyed this quick read and it has piqued my interest in the Hipposync Enterprises Series. I am not usually a fan of urban fantasy as it all seems the same to me, but EVERY LITTLE EVIL breaks the mold and creates its own niche genre.
I rate this book as 5 out of 5 Stars for pure ingenuity and uniqueness. I am now a fan of author D.C. Farmer.
I recommend this book to people who enjoy such reads as Piers Anthony’s Xanth series. Plus, the book is FREE, so you have nothing to lose.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Once a successful doctor of medicine, DC Farmer now works two days a week for the NHS and, thanks to the wonders of Krudian physics, the other nine days a week for Hipposync Enterprises, as a scribe.
Hipposync was established in the early fourteenth century as a purveyor and publisher of rare books, the sort of stuff you are not able to get elsewhere and which contains information as varied as how to guard your castle against the Hordes of Maltasub using Harpie blood and tar, and how to change a beetle into a useful toothpick.
DC’s role in documenting the work of the Fimmigration Service has, over the years, led to the realization that the world needs to know. Moreover, if he doesn’t tell someone soon he is going to burst. So, within the pages of his books you will find actual accounts of the splendid work of the Fimmigration Service, beginning with The 400 Lb Gorilla.
DC Farmer is alive and well in darkest Wales.

Tour: The Shattered Seam by Kathleen Groger
Spending spring break on an isolated island rumored to be haunted is not sixteen-year-old Sam’s idea of fun. Spending spring break with her uncle and his ghost-hunting film crew on an isolated island is even worse.
Her family’s secrets—and a genetic ability she can no longer deny—surface, along with the ghost of a rich serial killer who left behind a trail of trapped souls.
And he’s not through yet.
With only one chance for escape, Sam must embrace her family’s curse and close the Seam between the living and the dead. Or be lost, forever.
Kathleen wrote her first story in elementary school about a pegasus named Sir Lancelot. It had no plot or conflict, but it sparked a dream. After serving a fifteen-year sentence in retail management, the bulk in big box bookstores, she turned her love of reading into a full-time career writing dark and haunting characters and stories. She writes paranormal, fantasy, suspense, horror YA books. She is a contributing member of READerlicious, writers who love readers. Check out her blogs here.
She lives by the mantra that a day is not complete without tea. Lots of tea. Kathleen lives in Ohio with her husband, two boys, and two attention-demanding dogs. When not writing or editing or revising, you can find her reading, cooking, spending time with her family, or photographing abandoned buildings.

This book has all the elements required to tell a creepy tale. A teenager who believes she is sick because she seems to see things that others can’t see, a super-creepy locale, familial secrets, and lots of mystery.
Sam is sixteen years old and is spending Spring Break with her Uncle who films his ghost-hunting activities. She has absolutely zero interest in spending her vacation with her Uncle, and who can blame her. She is sixteen after-all and would rather spend time with kids her own age.
I do not want to give way too much of the story, but suffice it to say that this series debut will have young adult readers on the edge of their seats. At only 206 pages, it is a quick read which I believe appeals to the younger teen readers.
My only criticism is that I would have liked a bit more character development, but since this is the first book in a series, I am sure that readers will learn more and more about Sam as the series continues.
I rate THE SHATTERED SEAM as 4 out of 5 stars.

Dark and twisted. These stories will make you look twice at every child you see. Is he/she just a regular kid? Or, is there a monster hidden behind that seemingly innocent face?
Howard Odentz has crafted a book filled with short stories – one for every letter of the alphabet (26 in all), that will stay with you even long after you finish reading this book.
Starting with “A IS FOR ANDY – WHO WATCHES HIS DAD” and ending with ” Z IS FOR ZINA – WHO SUFFERS STARVATION” every single story is truly creepy and extremely disturbing. On a scale of 1 to 10, this book has a creepiness factor of 13.
What I enjoyed the most about this book and the stories it contains is that it reminds me of the writing of Stephen King in his early writing career – when ge wrote such works as Cujo and Carrie.
Haven’t yet heard of Howard Odentz? Neither had I before receiving this book from Netgalley, but I know I will be hearing more and more about him in the near future. He has published two other books prior to LITTLE KILLERS, and I will be adding both of them to my TBR (To Be Read) list immediately.
I believe that with the proper marketing, this book is destined for the Bestseller list. Everything about this book, including the amazingly macabre cover screams “BUY ME” to those who love horror fiction. I know that as soon as I saw the cover of this book I just had to know what it contained and I was not disappointed.
I rate this collection of truly terrifying tales as 6 out of 5 Stars and I recommend it to everyone who likes horror.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Howard Odentz is an author and a playwright. He is a lifelong resident of the gray area between Western Massachusetts and North Central Connecticut.
His love of that region is evident in his writing as he often incorporates the foothills of the Berkshires and the small towns of the Bay and Nutmeg states into his stories.
“LITTLE KILLERS A to Z, a full-blown alphabet of murderers, psychopaths, monsters and second graders, is his third work with Bell Bridge Books.”
“Previous novels include the horrifically humorous DEAD (A LOT) and the thriller BLOODY BLOODY APPLE.”
Howard’s fascination with the psychological aspects of those who are thrown into thrilling or mysterious circumstances is reflected in his writing.
“I like writing about my dark little corner of the world,” he says. “After all, this is New England. There’s more than enough creepiness here to keep me inspired for years to come.”

Title: THE SKELETON SONG
Series: SKELETON LAKE
Author: ANGELA KULIG
Type of Book: eBook
Length: 91 pages
Genre: Young Adult Horror
Release Date: 2012
Rating: 4 out of 4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Before I begin writing my review of the content of this book, I feel that I must comment on the stunning cover of this novella. It is absolutely gorgeous. It does exactly what a good cover should – it draws your eye. Kudos go to the cover artist.
Now, on to the book:
Skeleton Lake certainly lives up to its name. I feel the need to mention that the beginning is a bit traumatic, but it is certainly memorable.
“Though drowning isn’t the way that most adventures start, it is the only way at Skeleton Lake.”
At only 91 pages, this novella can be read in a single afternoon. The author, Angela Kulig, has come up with a truly strange yet interesting concept.
Skeleton Lake is a place to which certain people are called. Once they are called, they come. There is no way to refuse. Once they arrive at the lake, there is no going back to their old lives.
That siren call compels them to enter the lake which is where their human bodies die. But, the soul remains. They become animated skeletons and they “grow up”. Once they reach puberty they are told who their soulmate is.
Imagine how amazing it must feel to meet the other half of yourself; to feel a sense of utter contentment. It would be pure bliss!
But, what if you wanted to be able to choose? What happened to free will? Is it really love if you had no say in the choosing of your soulmate?
You need to read THE SKELETON SONG to find out. I have to admit that the huge number of typos drove me crazy, but that is because I am a perfectionist and I expect a high level of quality from a published book.
I enjoyed this book. At times I found it strange and confusing, but I believe that was the author’s intention. It mirrors the way the main character feels throughout much of the story.
I recommend reading this book if you are a fan of the weird and the macabre.
I rate THE SKELETON SONG as 4 out of 5 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The next book in The Skeleton Lake series is already available and I have added it to my TBR (To Be Read) list.
My favourite quote from this book is: “The sight and smell was so intense, I wondered if heaven had begun to leak into the real world.”
~ I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: (Information copied from www.angelakulig.com )
I wrote my first novel just shy of my thirteenth birthday, and at twenty-nine I still haven’t stopped. Many times, I write about dark, tragic, and beautiful things. Sometimes, I write about love. Love in it’s various forms; as love isn’t all peanut butter cups and roses, usually it’s dreadful. Often it’s cataclysmic.
All I ever wanted to do was write books, but that was the dream of a little girl and it was surprisingly easily fulfilled. Now I want to write books people read, different books, about unique places and things; shocking books, books that make you feel alive, and characters you sometimes wish weren’t dead.
Title: NINE FINGERS
Author: Tony Bowman
Type of Book: Autographed Paperback
Length: 291 pages
Genre: Thriller, Paranormal Fiction, Horror
Release Date: 2014
Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
~ I received a free copy of this book from the author.
*** WARNING ***
This book contains scenes that are violent and graphic. It also contains sexual situations. This book is NOT suitable for readers under the age of eighteen.
I was pleasantly surprised the other day when I opened my mailbox and found three books by author TONY BOWMAN inside. Not only was I surprised, but I was also excited. I have previously read three of his books and had loved every single one of them. In fact, all three were given well-deserved 5 Star ratings and I had added the rest of his books to my “To Be Read” list.
Although I was already reading a couple other books when Tony’s books arrived at my house, I quickly put the other books to the side and started reading “Nine Fingers” immediately. And I am very glad I did.
This story begins with the novella entitled “Nine Fingers: The Tucson Ripper” (which is currently being offered for free on Amazon) but it is not necessary to read the books in order to follow the storyline. However, why would you not when the novella is free?
Anyway, this book grabs your attention from the very beginning and doesn’t let go until long after the last page has been read.
My advice to potential readers? Don’t let the fact that this book contains werewolves discourage you from reading it. It is a far cry from the sappy and predictable Young Adult werewolf stories that seem to be dominating bookstore shelves on an alarmingly regular basis. This book is gritty, it’s fast-paced. It’s thrilling and terrifying in equal measure and the characters are both believable and compelling. In short, this book is FANTASTIC.
I only discovered Tony Bowman’s books this year. Initially I had entered to win a copy of one of his book’s through the Goodreads Giveaway program. This giveaway win turned out to be the beginning of a love affair with Tony Bowman’s books and has led to him earning a place on my list of all-time favourite authors.
One of the things that astounds me about Tony Bowman is that he writes whatever he wants and does not limit himself to a single genre. He has written Science Fiction, Horror, Thrillers, Paranormal Fiction and Post-Apocalyptic Fiction.
I have to admit that I generally do not like werewolf tales. They all seem to be the same or at least similar. This book may contain werewolves, but is UNIQUE. And, it is easily the best werewolf book I have ever read.
I love the fact that the author has not followed anyone else’s view or belief of what a werewolf is. He has created an entire history and this book will scare the pants off its readers. Why? One word = PLAUSIBILITY.
Character Building = 5 Stars
Plot = 5 Stars
Originality = 5 Stars
Readability = 5 Stars
OVERALL, I RATE THIS BOOK AS 5 OUT OF 5 STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If you choose only one book in the paranormal fiction/werewolf/horror category to read this year or next, YOU MUST CHOOSE “NINE FINGERS”.

Title: PROTECT HER: Part One
Author: Ivy Sinclair
Type of Book: Audiobook – Unabridged
Narrators: Angel Clark and Robert Neil DeVoe
Length: 2 hours and 21 minutes
Genre: Paranormal Fiction
Release Date: May 29, 2015
Publisher: Ivy Sinclair
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
~ I received a free copy of this audiobook through http://www.audiobookblast.com in exchange for an honest review.
~ Due to strong language this audiobook is NOT suitable for listeners under the age of 18.
Riley Stone is a Necromancer. He has a fearsome reputation amongst the Demon population. Paige Matthews is a regular young woman who knows nothing about demons and who, like most of the population does not believe in the supernatural.
Calamata Island is a declared demon-free zone and is under the protection of the Archangel Benjamin. So, when Paige is attacked on Calamata Island by what she sees as a shadow with fiery eyes and is saved by Riley, she has no idea what is happening.
Riley is perplexed as well. Why would a Demon risk Benjamin’s wrath just to attack a normal human?
This is the first audiobook in a series and ends with no resolution at all which I found frustrating. Of course, it ended with a cliffhanger which will make listeners want to purchase the next audiobook in the series to find out what happens next.
The cliffhanger ending is a terrific marketing strategy, but is frustrating for audiobook listeners. However, in author, Ivy Sinclair’s defence, it is obvious that this book is only part of a series since the title is ” PROTECT HER: Part One”.
The characters of Riley Stone and Paige Matthews are only beginning to discover who they are in this book. I am sure that they will develop further over the course of the next ten episodes. One thing that comes across quite clearly is the fact that Riley Stone is gorgeous. I was reading the author’s blog and came across a picture of Riley and WOW, he is definitely eye candy:
The best thing about this audiobook was the decision to use two different narrators. I really liked having a female (Angel Clark) performing the part of Paige and a male (Robert Neil DeVoe) performing the part of Riley. It made the changes in perspective much more effective.
Angel Clark has a terrific voice for audiobook narration. She speaks clearly and uses exactly the right inflection for her part.
Robert Neil DeVoe was an inspired choice for the part of Riley Stone. He makes the character come alive and uses the perfect mix of emotion and cynicism to portray the jaded character of Riley Stone. I do not think I would have rated this audiobook as highly as I did if it weren’t for the amazing narration. The narrators both deserve a 5 star rating. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
PROTECT HER: Part One is only two hours and twenty-one minutes long which makes it an easy listening experience.
I enjoyed his audiobook and my only complaint is that it didn’t contain more of the story. It would be nice to have a single audiobook containing all episodes of this story.
I rate this audiobook as 4 out of 5 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

⚡️ Please be aware before reading this novella that it contains some graphically violent scenes that may be disturbing to some readers. “Nine Fingers: The Tucson Ripper” is (in my opinion) meant for mature readers ages 18 and up. ⚡️
❗️Right now this novella is available FREE on both Amazon.com and Amazon.ca as well as on Wattpad.
This is the third work of fiction by Tony Bowman that I have had the pleasure of reading and reviewing. The first was a paperback copy of “THE ROAD” which is one the best post-apocalyptic books I have ever read. If you are aware of how many books and audiobooks I read in a single year, then you will realize that for me to rate a book that highly, it has to be very special. You can read a copy of my review of THE ROAD on my blog. I also read his amazing collection of short stories published in an anthology entitled “MORGUE DREAMS AND CURIOUSER THINGS” which I also rated as 5 out of 5 stars.
DESCRIPTION OF THE BOOK FROM THE AUTHOR’S BLOG:
The story of Nine Fingers does not begin in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, it begins in the south side of Tucson, Arizona.
Rodrigo Diaz has gone insane. At night, he prowls the streets of the south side, ripping his innocent victims to shreds in back alleys.
During the day, he torturers and devours others he has abducted.
The police believe he is a serial killer. But, he is actually something far worse: Rodrigo Diaz is a werewolf.
Ward Rickman has come to Tucson to track down an old friend – track him down and kill him.
Because Ward knows something the police don’t: It takes a werewolf to stop a werewolf.
EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK:
“Loud noises bothered Rodrigo Diaz. He hadn’t always been so sensitive, but that had been before. Everything was different now.
The high pitched screams cut through his brain like an ice pick through his eye. “For the love of God, will you shut up?”
There was a whining noise from the corner of the room. Rodrigo didn’t look up, he was intent on slicing into the meat of the woman’s thigh without cutting into a vein. She could bleed out from such a wound, and the succulent taste of the meat would be ruined.
“You’re a monster,” the other girl said, she of the high pitched scream.
He laid the filleting knife down and looked at her.
There are only so many adjectives that can be used to describe any book. “Nine Fingers: The Tuscon Ripper” deserves to have every positive adjective used to describe it and possibly even have some brand new adjectives created just for it.
Here are just a few of the things I loved about this book:
~ Thrilling: this novella will get your heart pumping as you read. Will Ward be able to stop Rodrigo before another innocent victim falls prey to his bestial whims?
~ Riveting: I do not believe it is possible to put this book down once you begin reading. I read it from start to finish in a single session.
~ Intense: The action begins immediately and is non-stop.
~Great Character Building: Usually novellas do not contain enough detail for the reader to feel like they really know the characters. This is not the case with “Nine Fingers: The Tucson Ripper”. Tony Bowman has done an outstanding job of making his characters seem real, therefore his readers become invested in the outcome of the story.
~ I really liked the book’s ending. Not only did it neatly wrap up this portion of the story, but also created a burning desire to find out what happens next, without leaving the reader frustrated by ending the book with a cliffhanger.
I definitely HAVE TO get a copy of “NINE FINGERS” to discover the rest of Ward’s story.
I rate the novella “NINE FINGERS: THE TUCSON RIPPER” as 5 out of 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Put this book on your MUST READ list right away and don’t forget that you can pick up your copy right now for FREE on Amazon. Tony also has three of his works available for free on Wattpad.

Author: D.F. Holland
Type of Book: eBook
Length: 27 pages
Genre: Short Story, Horror
Release Date: September 24, 2015
Publisher: Kindle Edition
Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
~ I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I love the subject matter that D.F. Holland chose to write about for this short story. I may be alone in this, but I have often thought about the gargoyles that are perched on many older buildings in many cities across North America. I often think about them when walking on the street below. Firstly, imagine the amount of history they have witnessed. If only they were equipped with video cameras that perpetually recorded – imagine what we could see and learn. Of course, the gargoyles were carved long before video cameras were a reality, but still I think it would be cool. I’ve often worried that one day these gargoyles may loosen from their perches and fall on unsuspecting pedestrians below.
D.F. Holland has taken her musings a step further in her short story THE BEAST WITHIN.
“The gargoyles were so high above the sidewalk that most people were unaware of them. Only an occasional helicopter pilot could see the enormity and magnificence of the gargoyles”
Heather lives on the top floor of one of these gargoyle decorated buildings, but despite living so close to it, she has never seen the gargoyles.
Heather had recently gone through a breakup but she was finally over the grieving process and decided to get out of the apartment.
Lucky for her, she picked the perfect day to go out and she ends up meeting an amazing guy. In fact, she thinks that he just might be the one.
The first part of this story draws the reader in and the romance takes centre stage. Readers will find themselves smiling as they read about the new couple.
But, just as you get comfortable with the story, it takes a sinister and decidedly scary turn. I LOVED IT!
D.F. Holland has done an amazing job of drawing in her readers and in capturing and keeping their attention. I enjoyed the twists in the story and am amazed at how much detail she was able to include in only 27 pages.
I rate THE BEAST WITHIN as 5 out of 5 Stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
