DESCRIPTION:

The perfect gift for baby showers and for those already in the throes of parenting, Fowl Language: Winging It is here to let you know that you’re not alone. Parenting is hard and often gross. Laughing about it helps.

The world’s finest parenting cartoon featuring ducks presents a comprehensive view of the early parenting years in all of their maddening cuteness and sanity-depriving chaos. In addition to dozens of previously unpublished cartoons, Fowl Language: Winging It is organized into 12 thematic chapters—including “Babies: Oh Dear God, What Have We Done?”; “Siblings: Best Frenemies Forever”; and “Sleep: Everybody Needs It, Nobody’s Gettin’ It”—each of which begins with a hilarious, illustrated 500-word essay.

MY REVIEW:

Parenting is hard. Ask anyone who has ever raised kids, or who is currently raising them, they’ll tell you – it is damn hard. Anyone who disagrees is probably childless, delusional, or they are lying.

Parenting is a full-contact sport where the parent juggles multiple roles. Not only are they the players, but they are also the coach, the referee and the spectators. Also, since the kids keep aging, the rules are constantly changing. Sound like fun?

I swear most parenting books were written with the singular goal of making parents feel completely inept and like they are total failures. That is why the world NEEDS Brian Gordon and his FOWL LANGUAGE COMICS.

Laughter is the best medicine. (Think Robin Williams in the movie Patch Adams … If you don’t know what I am talking about, you need to watch the movie ASAP.) It has been scientifically proven that laughing reduces stress levels which is where FOWL LANGUAGE: WINGING IT: THE ART OF IMPERFECT PARENTING by Brian Gordon comes in.

The characters he draws might be ducks, but each comic is based on real world situations. Situations that most parents can relate to. It is this relatability that will have readers literally laughing out loud.

This book is the perfect gift for any occasion, from baby showers to Christmas and Birthday gifts all the way to hostess gifts, this book is perfect. Also, if you are lucky enough to have still living grandparents, you have to buy them a copy of this book. If my Dad were still alive (Cancer SUCKS) he would love this book. Oh, and get a copy for yourself. Put it on your coffee table when other parents are coming over. It is a great conversation starter.

I rate FOWL LANGUAGE: WINGING IT: THE ART OF IMPERFECT PARENTING by Brian Gordon as more than 5 OUT OF 5 STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

ABOUT THE AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR:

. .

A million years ago, Brian Gordon spent his time staying out late, hitting the clubs, and eating at fancy restaurants.

And then suddenly … CHILDREN. While he loved being a dad more than anything else, he also noticed that at times, parenting can be a total crap-fest.

In the summer of 2013, Brian began drawing Fowl Language as a fun (and often profane) way to vent his frustrations. After getting laid off from his job as a greeting card artist, he decided to pursue the comic full-time. His work quickly became an Internet viral sensation, and is shared regularly by millions of people all over the world.

REVIEW:

When Brian Gordon became a parent, he thought he was going to ruin his kids and/or make some catastrophic mistake. Fortunately, for both himself and for his kids, “Despite their fragile appearance, evolution has seemingly hardened small children against numbskull parents like [him].”

What Brian has done, is taken all the weird and wonderful, serious and strange and yet somehow universal parenting issues and day-to-day struggles and used them to create blisteringly hilarious comic vignettes. If you are a parent it will be near to impossible not to literally laugh out loud at Brian Gordon’s FOWL LANGUAGE comics.

Using ducks (fowl) to represent the members of a family, the comics each represent a moment in parenting that all (or most) parents can relate to and that when seen in print will have readers laughing out loud.

This is the second book of Fowl Language Comics that I have read and reviewed. To see the review of BOOK ONE, visit http://bit.ly/FowlComics1

I rate this hilarious book as 5 out of 5 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 and with its October release date it makes perfect sense to purchase as Christmas gifts for family and friends.
CHARACTERS IN THE COMICS:

DICKY PATTERN

Dicky is a loving father, a devoted husband, a dutiful brother and an all-around nervous wreck. Life is hard for our hero.

tommy

Tommy is not only Dicky’s brother, he’s his next door neighbor. Unlike his more domestically inclined brother, Tommy has chosen the path of perpetual bachelorhood.

JACKIE

Jackie is Dicky’s wife and is, by all accounts, a saint for having put up with him for all these years.

CHAMP & MISSY

Champ And Missy are Dicky and Jackie’s 5 year old son and 2 year old daughter. They are both Dicky’s reason to live and the reason he can barely drag himself out of bed in the morning.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Brian Gordon  decided in kindergarten that he wanted to be a cartoonist. His classmates had equally unrealistic life goals, like becoming superheroes or princesses, but Brian was more tenacious.

So far, things are working out okay. Secret to his success? He sucks worse at everything else. You get a lot of drawing done when Plan B is “Starve To Death.”

His comics are largely inspired by his struggles as a parent, his fascination with technology, science and all things geeky. Oh, and a constant, crushing wave of self-doubt and anxiety. That’s a big source of inspiration, too.

It’s good work if you can get it.

~ I received a free copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

When you first find out that you are going to be a parent, most people are ecstatic. They have visions of becoming the perfect family and think that since they have read multiple  parenting books they are fully prepared. Ha! They Wish!

It’s only after they get their “little bundle of joy” home, that they realize that parenting is not as easy as they had thought.

As the child (or children) grow, parents are faced with hundreds (if not thousands) of situations that we’re definitely NOT covered in any parenting book.

FOWL LANGUAGE FLIP-OFF-KIDS

Comic Creator and Illustrator, Brian Gordon has taken his parenting experiences and created hilarious (and true to life) comics. Those comics are now available in this amazingly funny book.

My children are no longer little. However I still vividly remember them being babies and as small children, so I can relate to every comic included in this hilarious collection.

The comic that I  loved the most, and that I actually laughed out loud to, is titled:
“Returning To Work After A Long Weekend.”

FOWL LANGUAGElong-weekend

Any parent who cannot relate to the comics in this book is either lying to themselves or is a from a town named Stepford.

Brian Gordon has taken all the joy and all the frustrations of parenthood and used those unforgettable moments to create a wickedly funny collection of comics for grownups. It is the perfect antidote to a stress-filled day dealing with your children.

FOWL LANGUAGE2013-08-12-MURFVLIN

I think that this would make the perfect gift for anyone who has kids, whether they are still young or have already grown up and moved out on their own. Either way, the recipient is guaranteed some chuckles and even a few all-out ‘belly-laughs’. It is because of this that I feel that this book deserves a rating of 5 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
